What this service does

We are an introduction service. You give us details about yourself and your property, and we pass those details to up to three installers who are MCS-certified for battery storage and who cover your area. Those installers then contact you directly to quote for the work.

We do not install anything, and we are not party to any contract you enter into with an installer.

What we collect

When you complete the quote form:

  • Whether you already have solar panels
  • Your postcode
  • Whether you own the property
  • When you are looking to have the work done
  • A band describing your approximate annual electricity spend
  • Your name, mobile telephone number and email address
  • A record of your consent: the exact wording you agreed to, the version of that wording, the date and time, and the IP address the submission came from

When you use the contact form: your name, email address, the message you send, and your IP address.

Automatically, when you browse the site: standard technical information including IP address, browser type and device type, and — if analytics is enabled — pages viewed and the steps you completed in the quote form. Analytics data is not used to identify you personally.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

Send a verification code to your mobile by SMSConsent, and our legitimate interest in ensuring the number is valid

Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, installers may contact you by telephone, text or email about your enquiry because you gave consent at the point of submission.

Who we share it with

Installers. Up to three companies that are MCS-certified for battery storage and cover your postcode. Once your details reach them, each installer is an independent data controller and is responsible for its own use of your data. On request we will tell you which installers received your details.

Service providers acting on our instructions (processors):

  • Twilio — delivering the SMS verification code
  • Resend — delivering enquiry notifications and replies by email
  • Upstash — short-term storage of the verification code and enquiry record
  • Cloudflare — protecting our forms from automated abuse
  • Vercel — hosting this website
  • Google Analytics — website measurement, where enabled

Some of these providers process data outside the UK. Where they do, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not pass it to brokers, marketing list companies, energy suppliers or anyone other than the installers described above.

How long we keep it

  • Verification codes: 10 minutes
  • Enquiry records held by us: 24 months from submission, so we can answer questions about which installers received your details and evidence the consent you gave
  • Contact form messages: 24 months
  • Unverified enquiries (where you gave details but never entered the code): deleted after 30 days unless you ask us sooner

Installers keep their own records under their own retention policies. Deleting our copy does not delete theirs, though we will tell them you have asked.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you may:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct anything inaccurate
  • Have it erased
  • Restrict or object to how we use it
  • Receive it in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time — this does not affect anything done before you withdrew it

To exercise any of these, email info@comparegreen.co.uk with the postcode and phone number you used. We respond within one month. We will not ask you to justify a deletion request.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or by calling 0303 123 1113.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar storage for two purposes: remembering where you are in the quote form, and — where analytics is enabled — measuring how the site is used. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block cookies in your browser settings, though the quote form may not work correctly if you do.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Where a change materially affects how we use data you have already given us, we will contact you.
